Duloxetine is used to treat depression and anxiety. In addition, duloxetine is used to help relieve nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes or ongoing pain due to medical conditions such as arthritis, chronic back pain, or fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain).
Duloxetine, sold under the brand name Cymbalta among others,[1] is a medication mostly used for major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, fibromyalgia, and neuropathic pain.[2] It is taken by mouth.[2] Common side effects include dry mouth, nausea, feeling tired, dizziness, agitation, sexual problems, and increased sweating.[2] Severe side effects include an increased risk of suicide, serotonin syndrome, mania, and liver problems.[2] Antidepressant withdrawal syndrome may occur if stopped.[2] There are concerns that use during the later part of pregnancy can harm the baby.[2] It is a serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.
