This medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains 2 medications: metoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide. Metoprololbelongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers.
Metoprolol, marketed under the tradename Lopressor among others, is a medication of the selective ?1 receptor blocker type.[3] It is used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain due to poor blood flow to the heart, and a number of conditions involving an abnormally fast heart rate.[3] It is also used to prevent further heart problems after myocardial infarction and to prevent headaches in those with migraines.[3] Metoprolol is sold in formulations that can be taken by mouth or given intravenously.[3] The medication is often taken twice a day.[3] The extended-release formulation is taken once per day.[3] Metoprolol may be combined with hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic) in a single tablet.
